New Winter Makeup

It is that time again!  That’s right, time for a new season make over.  Holidays are a perfect opportunity to wear heavier makeup that you don’t normally get to wear on a daily basis.  But now the Holidays are over and it’s time to take it down a notch.  In keeping with my New Year Resolution to appreciate the here and now, I wanted to created a makeup look that doesn’t take much time.  That way I can spend more time living life and not so much time primping for it.  Even though I do love to groom and primp.  Which is why I became an Esthetician!

I wanted a “fresh face” look.  For my eyes I kept it very simple.  I used a gold cream shadow from the lash line up into the crease and a shimmer bone shadow under my brow to highlight.  I tight-lined (worked color into the eyelashes) with a black shadow liner.  Then, put a deep blue gel liner above the lashes just over my iris.  This really makes the eyes pop without being over stated and the blue makes the whites of my eyes look whiter.  I finished my eyes with two coats of my favorite mascara (Bobbi Brown’s Lash Glamour Extreme).  To frame my eyes I used a light grey shadow just on the tail of my eyebrows to fill in the ends.

In my adult years I have found that lip liner is a wonderful thing.  For this look I used a color close to my own lip shade only with a bit of a warmer tone  (My lips tend to look a little purple).  Then I filled them in with a pink beige lip color and topped them with clear gloss.    Now they stand out without really standing out.

For my skin I kept it very simple.  I started with an all over tinted moisturizer with an SPF 50 (Elta MD).  I used under eye concealer two shades lighter than my skin color to brighten and hide my lack of sleep.  Then put a stick foundation on my nose and cheeks to even out my skin tone.  After setting my entire face with powder I popped a blue based bright pink on the apples of my cheeks.  This bright pop of color gives me a youthful and lively appearance.  I love it!

Bronzer is an option if you want some color, but since it is winter I am embracing the pale skin.  Over all it took me about 7 minutes to apply this look.  Applying a darker lipstick shade will take this look from day to night, it is very versatile.  Getting a new look doesn’t require an overhaul, just a few changes in technique will do.  The light handedness with eyeliner and dark shadows is very fresh.  So try something new for the new year.
